THE CRUISE
An Evening on the Aegean
There is something different about the sea in the late afternoon. The wind softens, the colours change, and the coast of Chania takes on the light it has waited for all day. Our Sunset Cruise is built around that moment.
We set sail from the Old Venetian Harbour as the heat of the day begins to give way to the calmer evening. The route is shaped around the wind and your preferences — usually a gentle sail along the Bay of Chania, with an anchor stop in a sheltered bay so you can swim in water that is still warm from the day. There is no rush. The pace is yours.
As the sun begins to descend, we position the boat for the best view of the sunset — the White Mountains turning gold behind you, the sea reflecting every shade of orange and pink, and the lighthouse of the Old Harbour glowing in the distance. This is the part of the cruise our guests remember most: the boat quiet, the light soft, and the bay catching its breath.
While at anchor, the captain prepares a light snack served with wine or beer. Fresh fruit, water and soft drinks are always on board. The sunset itself is the centrepiece, but the return to the lit-up Venetian Harbour after dark is its own quiet pleasure — Chania glowing on the shore, the boat slipping back into port. Most often booked by couples for romantic evenings, the cruise also works beautifully for small groups of friends and family celebrations.
HOW THE CRUISE FLOWS
What to Expect on the Day
A typical flow of the cruise – shaped around the wind, the light and what you most want to see.
Embark at the Old Venetian Harbour
Meet the captain at the wooden pier in the heart of Chania’s historic harbour. Welcome on board, a moment to settle in, and we cast off.
Sail along the Bay of Chania
Glide out past the lighthouse and along the coast. The route is set by the wind on the day – we’ll choose the direction that gives you the best sailing and the best light.
Anchor for a Swim
Drop anchor in a sheltered bay – Maherida, near Thodorou, or another quiet spot. Swim in calm, warm evening water while the captain prepares a light snack on board.
The Sunset itself
We position the boat for the best view as the sun descends. Wine or beer in hand, the sea quiet, the White Mountains turning gold – this is the moment the cruise is built for.
Sail back into the Lit Harbour
As night settles in, we turn back toward Chania. The Old Venetian Harbour, lit up against the dark water, is one of the most beautiful approaches in the Mediterranean.
Note — The exact route and stops adapt to the weather on the day and to your preferences. Departure time shifts with the season so that you are out on the water as the sun sets. The captain confirms the time when you book.

GUEST STORIES
What Our Guests Say

The captain of the day, Alex, was professional and very welcoming.
The trip to Krikri Island was a great time, enjoying the view and swimming.
The boat was impeccable, with nothing to complain about in terms of maintenance and upkeep.
I definitely recommend it for a sea trip.

Myself along with three friends took a private hire with Notos and it was a fantastic day out. We chose the catamaran. It was beautiful, spacious and very stable and smooth for anyone who is uncertain on sailing boats. Our captain Nikos, was the perfect host, attentive, informative and very kind. He also introduced us all to a sup which he has and is free to use. We had such fun, it was hilarious! We spent more time falling off it than standing on it which is more difficult than it looks until you find your balance. Sit on it! It's much easier! Our friend Alison was the most successful, she mastered it!
I highly recommend Notos. Personal service and a beautiful boat, you won't be disappointed.
Thank you captain from all of us.

Ahead of time, I truly thought I would get tired of swimming at each spot - but I didn't!
