About the Boat
A Sailboat Named After the Breeze
Avra is the second sailing yacht in our fleet — smaller, sleeker, and built for a different kind of day than her sister Notos. A French-built Jeanneau, designed for grace and ease on the water.
The Soft Wind
In Greek, Avra (Αύρα) means “breeze” — the soft, gentle wind that fills the sails on a still summer afternoon, when the air barely moves but the boat keeps going. It is a different kind of wind from Notos, the warm south wind for which our flagship is named. Where Notos suggests strength and presence, Avra suggests grace and ease. The names sit well together — and they sit well with the boats they belong to.
A Jeanneau Sun Odyssey
Avra is a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 32 — a 9.6-metre monohull sailboat from the French shipyard that has been building sailing yachts since 1957. The Sun Odyssey series is one of the most popular cruising sailboat designs in the world, with more than 30,000 boats built over the decades. It is known for clean, elegant lines, a sociable cockpit, and the kind of easy handling that makes a sailing day feel relaxed rather than technical.
These are qualities that matter on a charter cruise. Avra moves easily through the waters of the Bay of Chania, responds well to the gentle prevailing winds, and offers a deck and cockpit perfectly proportioned for smaller groups. She is the boat of choice for couples and small parties of friends — guests who want a sailing experience without the scale of a larger yacht.
“Avra is the kind of sailboat you want for an evening, when the sea quiets and the light gets soft.”
Why Avra for Sunset
We recommend Avra in particular for our sunset cruises. There is something about her sleek lines and intimate scale that makes the golden hour on board feel particularly special. The cockpit seats a small group comfortably for shared wine and a light snack. The bow makes a beautiful place to lie back and watch the colour change. And the boat itself, with the lighthouse of the Old Harbour glowing in the distance as you sail back at dusk, becomes part of the memory.
Like all our yachts, Avra departs directly from the Old Venetian Harbour. No drive to another port, no time lost. You walk to the harbour, step on board, and you are sailing within minutes.
