About the Boat
The Sailboat That Started Everything
Notos is our flagship — the boat that gave the company its name, and still the heart of the fleet. Classic, traditional, and made for guests who want the feel of real sailing.
A Name From the Wind
In ancient Greek mythology, Notos was the south wind — one of the four sons of Aeolus, the keeper of the winds. The Notos is the warm, often languid wind that blows up from Africa across the Cretan sea, the one that fills the sails in late summer when the bay quiets and the days grow long. It seemed like the right name for a sailboat working these waters.
What Sailing Feels Like
Notos is a classic monohull — one hull, deep keel, the boat that defined sailing for centuries. There is nothing complicated about her. The sails fill, the boat leans into the wind, and you feel everything the sea is doing beneath you. For guests who have only known motor boats, the first time on a sailboat under wind alone is often a surprise: the silence, the gentle tilt, the way the boat moves with the water rather than against it.
This is the experience Notos is built for. She is not the boat for those who want a level platform and a stable cocktail at all times — that is the catamaran. Notos is for guests who want to sail, in the older meaning of the word. To feel the wind on the boat, to watch the captain trim the sails, to be part of the rhythm of moving by wind alone.
“There is a particular pleasure to a classic sailboat that the more modern hulls cannot quite replicate.”
On the Cretan Coast
The Bay of Chania is a forgiving stretch of water for sailing. The prevailing winds are reliable but rarely fierce, the bays are sheltered, and the distances between stops are comfortable. Notos has been working these waters for years — there is no cove the captain hasn’t anchored in, no wind shift he hasn’t read. The boat knows the coast as well as he does.
Like all our yachts, Notos departs directly from the Old Venetian Harbour in the heart of Chania. No drive to Kolymvari, no time lost getting to the boat. You walk to the harbour, step on board, and you are sailing within minutes.

GOOD TO KNOW
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of sailboat is Notos?
Notos is a classic monohull sailboat — our flagship vessel and the boat that gave the business its name. She is built for traditional sailing, with a single hull that leans into the wind and moves with the sea, giving guests the authentic feel of being under sail.
Why is the boat called Notos?
Notos is the ancient Greek name for the south wind, one of the four sons of Aeolus, the keeper of the winds in Greek mythology. The south wind is the warm wind that blows over the Cretan sea — it felt like the right name for a sailboat working these waters.
Where does Notos depart from?
Notos is based at the Old Venetian Harbour in the heart of Chania’s old town. All cruises with Notos depart from this historic harbour — not from Kolymvari or other surrounding ports.
How many guests can Notos accommodate?
Notos accommodates up to 10 guests for day cruises. The boat is private — your group sails alone, with no other guests on board.
What cruises can I take on Notos?
Notos is available for all our standard cruise formats — full-day private cruises, sunset cruises, half-day cruises, and fully custom charters. She is especially popular for guests who want the authentic feel of traditional sailing.
Is Notos suitable for first-time sailors?
Yes. While monohulls do lean under sail in stronger winds, Notos is an easy boat for first-time sailors. The captain adjusts the sailing style to your group’s comfort, and the calm waters of the Bay of Chania mean conditions are usually gentle. For very young children or guests prone to seasickness, we often recommend the catamaran instead.
